Matthew Barnes

After many years working for some of the biggest names in the boat building and ship restoration industry, Matt has developed a diverse set of skills that allows him to execute clients projects efficiently and expertly. Before forming Leetes Island Boatworks, Matt was lead shipwright and manager of the restoration of the MAYFLOWER II at Mystic Seaport, Matt was also the lead carpenter at the Service Yard at Morris Yachts and a Graduate of IYRS in Newport, RI. A recent fellowship brought him to Denmark where he studied and now teaches and lectures on traditional viking shipbuilding techniques. Equally expert with an axe, slick, or more modern laminates and vacuum bagging infusion techniques, Matt brings a passion for quality craftsmanship and both classic and traditional yachts and boats.

Tucker Yaro

Tucker's background is in both operation and maintenance of traditional and classic vessels from large to small. He holds a USCG issued 100 ton near coastal master license. Before forming Leetes Island Boatworks, Tucker was the captain for the AMISTAD. Under his leadership the boat received a repower, extensive system upgrades, exterior cosmetic restoration and many rig and sail updates. AMISTAD is the flagship of Connecticut and educates thousands of school children every year about the story of the Amistad rebellion. Tucker was a shipwright at Mystic Seaport Museum during the restoration of the Mayflower II, there focusing on reframing and re planking the vessel. At the Manhattan Yacht Club he maintained and race managed a 35 boat club racing fleet which included several restorations and maintenance of all club boats and ships including the 80' barge clubhouse anchored and in harbor and the 161' spirit of tradition schooner ARABELLA. Tucker has long been involved in classic yacht racing with experience in New England, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, with deliveries in between.
